Things to do in Gold Coast as a family (1)

Gold Coast is a perfect family destination.  No matter if you are looking to entertain your toddlers, school going children or teenagers. What’s more, it can even offer you some amazing quiet and breathtaking spots for that Instagram worthy honeymoon or baby moon you’re after! And with more than 300 days of sunshine, 70 kilometres of coastline, and the Southern Hemisphere’s largest range of attractions and activities, its not surprising that it is high on the family travel bucket list. So here is a lowdown of some things to do in Gold Coast as a family.

Visit the Theme parks:

Sea World Gold Coast

This one’s a no-brainer. You can’t possibly go to Gold Coast and not see the amazing dearth of theme parks it has. Unless of course, you are afraid of heights or crazy rides like I am.  Even then, there are so many activities one can indulge in. Gold Coast has theme parks like Movie World, Sea World, Wet and Wild, Dreamworld and many more.

Enjoy your time at any of the famous beaches of Gold Coast:

The beaches in Gold Coast are breathtaking, to say the least.

Visit the colourful weekend markets at Surfers Paradise beach:

Visit the weekend markets at Surfers Paradise beach: If you are going to be in Gold Coast on a weekend, then be assured your evenings will be fun. Thanks to the colorful and vibrant weekend markets that take place on Surfers Paradise (which by the way, is one of the liveliest spots to be in, when in GC).

Go for a walk at Burleigh heads, a short drive from Surfers Paradise:

Burleigh Heads, located between Coolangatta and Surfers Paradise is where the locals head to for funky waterfront restaurants, village markets, picnic and BBQ areas and a national park that offers natural headland in the heart of the Gold Coast that offers walks along the rocky foreshore and through rain forest, and the chance to see whales in spring and sea-eagles soaring along the coast.

Enjoy the breathtaking night-time views from your beach or city facing apartment in the city:

Make sure to book yourself an apartment on the top-most floors just like how we did, to enjoy the breathtaking views of the city. There is nothing like waking up to the sunrise over the tall skyscrapers and dreamy seascape of Gold Coast, while you hold that steamy hot cup of coffee. Pure indulgence!

Enjoy whale watching, if you are in Gold Coast between May and November:

If you are a fan of whale watching, then Gold Coast is sure to offer you lots of amazing experiences. Whale watching season on the Gold Coast runs from May to November every year, but the best time to catch the migration is between June and October. We were lucky to have spotted some whales even in the month of May.

Visit Tallebudgera Creek for a perfect picnic with family:

If you love camping, swimming, picnicking, kayaking or fishing then Tallebudgera is where you should head to with your family. We particularly love spots where you can enjoy multiple views and activities, to suit everyone in the family and that’s what Tallebudgera gave us.

Head to Lamington National park to get a birds eye view of the rainforest :

Apart from the ones listed above, there are so many interesting things to do in Gold Coast with family; like Quad Biking, Kart racing, jet boating, visiting Ripley’s Beleive it or not and Wax museum, etc. You will literally be spoilt for choices here.

Please do share with me in the comments section if you have visited Gold Coast as well and what activities or sightseeings did you enjoy the most.

I am a former Architect who left her career to follow her heart and passion, which involves travelling, photography and Social media marketing. I have stayed in a rustic village of Eastern Himalayas, swum with colorful fishes and corals in Fiji, lived with gypsy Banni villagers in Western India, interacted with Kenya’s Masai tribe, river rafted in the freezing cold river in Ladakh, lived and explored a quaint beach town of Tanga in Tanzania, took a 48 hour camel safari in the Thar desert of Rajasthan, sailed on a felucca on the mighty Nile river in Egypt and chilled with the Kangaroo’s in Australia. Needless to say I am always adding more experiences and places to the list.
