How to get around Dubai with a baby?

Getting around Dubai with a baby can be super comfortable and convenient, as the city is well-equipped with various transportation options that you can choose based on your comfort level. Here are my tips on how to navigate Dubai with a baby:

Public Transport:

• Metro: Dubai’s metro system is efficient, clean, and stroller-friendly. Elevators and ramps are available at stations, making it easy to access platforms with a stroller. We found ourselves using Metro as our transport around many parts of Dubai frequently. Just for your information, peak hour could get a bit crowded so choose your timings wisely.

• Buses: Public buses are also equipped with designated spaces for strollers. They are a cost-effective means of transportation. If you are further away from a metro station, you can take advantage of these.

Taxis:

• Taxis are readily available in Dubai and are equipped with child car seats upon request. Inform the taxi dispatcher or use a taxi app to request a car with a baby seat. We downloaded the app named Careem which is similar to Uber and allowed us to choose the kind of taxi we preferred.
Added tip: Make sure you sit in Taxis that have safety features like SOS buttons installed.

Rental Cars:

• If you prefer more independence, you could consider renting a car with a baby seat. Most car rental companies offer this option, but it’s advisable to book in advance, especially if you are looking to hire a car for a full day or long distances and require car seats.

Water Taxis:

Dubai has water taxis that operate in certain areas. While these are not equipped with baby seats, they can provide a unique and scenic mode of transportation.

Using Baby Carriers:

Consider using a baby carrier for added convenience, especially in crowded areas or when using modes of transportation where strollers may not be practical.

Visit Baby-Friendly Attractions:

Goes without saying, plan your activities around baby-friendly attractions, such as parks, beaches, and family-friendly malls. These places often have amenities like changing rooms and feeding areas. All the malls are stroller-friendly, offering spacious corridors and dedicated areas for parents with infants.

Plan for Rest Stops:

Babies may need breaks for feeding or diaper changes. Plan your itinerary with stops for these activities, and choose locations with suitable facilities.

Airport Transportation:

If you’re arriving at or departing from Dubai International Airport, know that the airport is equipped with baby-changing facilities and offers services to assist parents with young children.

Always consider the comfort and safety of your baby when selecting transportation options. Dubai’s infrastructure is generally accommodating for families, making it feasible to explore the city with ease.

I am a former Architect who left her career to follow her heart and passion, which involves travelling, photography and Social media marketing. I have stayed in a rustic village of Eastern Himalayas, swum with colorful fishes and corals in Fiji, lived with gypsy Banni villagers in Western India, interacted with Kenya’s Masai tribe, river rafted in the freezing cold river in Ladakh, lived and explored a quaint beach town of Tanga in Tanzania, took a 48 hour camel safari in the Thar desert of Rajasthan, sailed on a felucca on the mighty Nile river in Egypt and chilled with the Kangaroo’s in Australia. Needless to say I am always adding more experiences and places to the list.
